Are You Listening?
The idea for this piece began after reading ‘Deep Listening’ by Pauline Oliveros and experimenting with a few of the deep listening pieces within the book. However, rather than just doing a piece entirely based around Deep Listening practice, I wanted to give it a narrative structure, coming from a more accessible standpoint.
I wanted to give the listener a varied sonic experience. The piece, therefore, uses manipulated field recordings, piano harmonics, a synthesized harmonic series, and ambient sustained tones in Quarter Comma Meantone and Pythagorean tuning, allowing purity to flow into dissonance.
