an evolutionary process for piano and live electronics

Performed by Sophie Lim and Mia Windsor at Clothworkers Centenary Concert Hall as part of Composers Collective Extravaganza Part 1.

This piece follows a live interactive evolutionary process consisting of both notated ideas and guidance for improvisation. The process starts by playing two notated ideas and then ‘breeding’ them together through a timbre-focused improvisation. The ‘child’ idea is then ‘bred’ with a new notated idea and the process continues. This creates both consistency, development, and unexpected timbral interactions between different parts of the material, resulting in a complex evolving structure.

I would like to give Sophie Lim credit for her improvisation efforts in this piece.
