an evolutionary process for cello and live electronics
Performed by Billy Harrison and Mia Windsor at Wharf Chambers 08/06/2022 as part of Ulrica Duo’s Owlutionary Concert.
This piece follows a live interactive evolutionary process consisting of both notated ideas and guidance for improvisation. The performers first play two notated ideas and then ‘breed’ them together through timbre-focused improvisation. The ‘child’ idea is then ‘bred’ with a new notated idea and the process continues. This creates both consistency, development, and unexpected timbral interactions between different parts of the material, resulting in a complex evolving structure.
I would like to give Billy Harrison credit for his improvisation efforts in this piece.
